A revisit to proper planning, disaster preparedness and capacity building

Sometimes back one of my commentaries on various issues I questioned how Wajir county government is ready when it comes on disaster preparedness it's very unfortunate millions went into a blaze on yesterday's soko -mjinga inferno - so painful.

Hardworking Kenyans lost their own fetched efforts, a disaster that was possible to be contained if a quick response were to be made on time immediately when they get a phone (distress call) as per victims he said they called the administration but we were told unless given permission they cannot attend surely that is impunity and reckless statement to be given by.

We are asking where were the department concern, the firefighter (The municipality) in general that shows there too much laxity -  I think it's second time such menace happened in that market, although they were many accidents occured as result of fire - Basabra,Soko mjinga,Al-Buruj were some if I mention it.

The County government should revisit it's Way of handing on such happenings, on yesterday's soko -mjinga inferno there are many things to be learned ; first the department concern on mitigation of any arise disaster failed their duty,it means they are not proactive (active on duty), they are incompetent enough maybe those who were given that Job were basically under mercy of politics not on merit - The governor should initiated a meeting to review what went wrong, why there are too much laxity- a committee to be set up to follow up the failure of the fire extinguisher not to be in the scene ? action to be taken against those under come the disaster management program - and explain the substantial reasons- heads should roll- negligence of officers, they should be fired.

Provisions of County emergency hotlines would have been a leeway-  numbers that can be called anytime disaster unfolds - the team in duty can immediately tackle the matter- too much bureaucracy the chain of command is tight that has led to gashing down properties worthy millions in yesterday's fire outbreak.

Trainings should be given to officers to expand their know-how - on dealing against calamity it's needs a well vast knowledge- As world turns to be a global village everything is shaping indifferent ways - Across the world new techs are used to combat fire - a benchmark is necessary.

The government should embark on proper planning of the town, our town is really in pathetic condition in terms structural, settlement - the way it was planned before -how our plots were engineered if bigger disaster happened,no doubt our county will be called for a state of emergency - proper surveying be fast-tracked .

(Spacing, inaccessible of roads within Central business districts adds to another pain in handling fire).

The Kenya power company should ensure they do regular check ups on the power lines why? because sometimes due to some fault the power circuits may having shocks, failure to check Will led to power faults- They should do verifications of some of the suspected mechanical problems- especially this rainy seasons many power lines polls are jamming- if regular or  manning Will automatically avert destructions (fire outbreaks).

To the public we must remain vigilant Incase if power leakages is witnessed,we must report to the Kenya power company- if any fault we should switch off sockets when leaving home or whenever we are not using the electricity.

Finally, it's our collective duty to ensure we mitigate any cause of disaster- fire ,on significant note we should remain very sober in handling man-made caused faults.

For our brothers, sisters our mothers who lost everything in soko-mjinga we say we are sorry, may God ease your pain, on this difficult time let's contribute to their calls for support and assistance- the county government (leaders) should compensate at least a third of what this business community lost -  This pain may a blessing to you, God always understand best.
