Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdullahi today has distributed relief food to families affected by floods caused by the ongoing El-Nino flash floods.
The food has benefited families who were affected by floods in various places around the county as well as the most vulnerable people affected by the floods.
While distributing to residents of Dajajabula in Wajir South, Abdullahi said that even though Wajir County is amongst region mostly affected by the as resulting many pastoralist loosing their livestock, inaccessible of roads after being swept away by the ongoing heavy rains which resulted to a call for interventions.
We have delivered 2.7 Metric Tonnes of assorted food items and essential non-food items to Dadajabulla to support our people who have been devastated by the ongoing El Nino flash floods"
The Governor said that the program will continue to ensure that the vulnerable members of the community are taken care of. He also pointed out climate change as main cause urging everyone to take part in combating global warming.
The floods have been occasioned by torrential rains, further compounding the need for relief aid to affected families.
Governor Ahmed said that the county government has been working closely with the National Government ,he further appeal to all stakeholders to join the support of humanitarian aid.
"We shall continue to cooperate with all stakeholders to divert all our efforts and resources to save our people and their livelihoods from the ongoing floods".
The governor called on residents living in areas affected by the floods to move to other safer places to avoid any disaster.
Abdullahi presided over the distribution of food and nonfood items in partnership with Kenya Red Cross and Kenya defense force (KDF) .
The governor was accompanied by area member of the county Assembly sahal mugul, Kenya Red Ross and among other security officials in the county.
