Wajir people should embrace to adopt rain-water harvesting techniques. Residents of Wajir County should take advantage of this rainy seasons in order to harness food security, the rainy season is here with us,for three weeks now it's pounding across the county causing wanton impacts - flood flash, overflowing of dams, the seasonal lakes bursting it's bank.  The negatives impacts of the rain is beyond human solution- roads impassable, upsurge of food prices , deaths, properties worthy millions destroyed- with millions cubic of water are going into waste it's paramount we act swiftly to conserve this precious commodity. Today in Wajir county most water catchment areas are developed, blocked due to  houses built on within the stream flow route-  we witnessed acute water shortages- our wells dry up leading to increase of water vendors- Orahey, Guguftu(got-rahma),Shokaa, Adc, which were water catchment areas is now no more due to human encroachment. water management is vi...

A revisit to proper planning, disaster preparedness and capacity building

Sometimes back one of my commentaries on various issues I questioned how Wajir county government is ready when it comes on disaster preparedness it's very unfortunate millions went into a blaze on yesterday's soko -mjinga inferno - so painful.  Hardworking Kenyans lost their own fetched efforts, a disaster that was possible to be contained if a quick response were to be made on time immediately when they get a phone (distress call) as per victims he said they called the administration but we were told unless given permission they cannot attend surely that is impunity and reckless statement to be given by.   We are asking where were the department concern, the firefighter (The municipality) in general that shows there too much laxity -  I think it's second time such menace happened in that market, although they were many accidents occured as result of fire - Basabra,Soko mjinga,Al-Buruj were some if I mention it.  The County government should revisit it's Way of h...

Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdullahi today has distributed relief food to families affected by floods caused by the ongoing El-Nino flash floods.  The food has benefited families who were affected by floods in various places around the county as well as the most vulnerable people affected by the floods. While distributing to residents of Dajajabula in Wajir South, Abdullahi said that even though Wajir County is amongst region mostly affected by the as resulting many pastoralist loosing their livestock,  inaccessible of roads after being swept away by the ongoing heavy rains which resulted to a call for interventions. Poor infrastructure, staff shortage — makaror dispensary not equipped - A tale of neglect

Residents decry dilapidated hospital in makaror, seek govt interventions. The decrepit state of makaror hospital has sparked uproar among local residents, with many complaints over the lack of essential drugs, dilapidated equipment and poor service delivery due to lack of vital facilities like ambulance services. in my recent visit to the facility early this week it's clear enough the county government had failed in addressing health issues in Wajir especially the health centers mostly those close to the residents an example makaror dispensary - due to spiraling corruption and lethargy among the county staff the wananchi are going through painful account in accessing health service. Despite the health sector receiving the largest chunk of the county budget, it is being run down purposely to serve the interests of a few- overhaul needed. The health center in makaror  is in a sorry state. Decrying the situation, the residents called on government for intervention. It was built ...
WAJIR, in the eyes of many, is a region plagued by droughts, poor drainage system, lack of of proper garbage and waste management, livestock diseases, unemployment, poor governance, corruption and indifference of political regimes. While many counties do indeed have to battle with such problems or are still scarred by them, many others are progressing and prospering at an impressive rate.  Wajir in particular have the ability, know-how and potential to care for their population's well-being and human rights but with lack of political Will to care for their people who suffer from mental illness is a pipedream agenda/objective. Drug abuse, natural phenomena, depression, unemployment, curse are some of the elements associated with madness. There is a phrase that if you are mad go to wajeer - " Hadii aad walanta wajeer aad"  in layman. in this County there is rampant cases of mentally challenged people, every corner of the town or even in the outskirts and villages the rate i...
